Eye Donation Awareness Camp (TCS, Chennai, India)

Early December 2006, TCS Velachery (at Chennai, India) organised an Eye Donation Awareness week.

This is what we did :

1) Put up teasers (posters that hint and urge people to think) for the first 3 days.

---------------------

These were designed by me (A3 size bmps). Feel free to download, print and distribute. The first two are to be put up on Mirrors

The black strip on the girl's eyes is to be cut out. When someone stands in front of the poster on the mirror, their eyes would fall in the gap :-) We planned to put up the girl poster on the mirrors in every rest room.. dint get permission though.. had to settle for the mirrors in the cafeteria wash area. A3 print outs at Star Xerox cost Rs 30 for the first copy, and Rs 12 for extra copies.

---------------------

1.5) Put up the official poster announcing that its Eye Donation week. and inviting associates to attend the presentaion.Apart from the poster, of course circulate an email to all the groups.

2) Representative from an Eye Bank (Sankara Nethralaya in our case) is invited and gives a presentation on both Eye Care and donation.(Eye care part brings more people.. especially the IT folk who spend hours with the monitor in their face.)

3) Take forms for Eye Pledging from the Eye Bank. Organise a Drop Box setup with the forms nearby and in a place which is easily accessed and frequented. (Cafeteria of course).

The drop box doesnt need to be manned. Allow people to take as many forms as they want, as this would also create the awareness which is one of our main movitves. Keep refilling the forms. We got 87 donors who dropped their forms in the drop box. The others who want more time to decide can send the forms directly to the Eye Bank..

4) Collect the forms, mark them with the organisations name and send them to the Eye Bank. The donors will receive a Donor Card soon which needs to be carried in purse/wallet.
Read FAQ here.. This is the Eye Bank we contacted..
